Stone Brewing Company – Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

Holy hell this is good. I had this while I was home over Christmas, upon my return to Baltimore I went searching all over for it and couldn’t find any more bottles. It is rich and powerful, but smooth at the same time. I would love to try this on draft when it comes out again. It is a sleeper and the ABV will sneak up on you if you aren’t careful. I didn’t think the finish was bitter but that’s what Stone says

I really like the beers from Stone Brewing Company and I think this one is the best I have sampled to date.

L’Oustal Blanc Naick 5

I picked this one up a few months ago at the wine source. It is much like its little brother the K7 except it is a mix of – 60% of cinsault, 20% of carignan, 20% of syrah and grenache instead of the K7 which is 100% carignan. Main tastes in this one seem to be deep berry. It needs some time to breathe. Its a good wine and comes in at arround $18. I think the K7 at $12 however is a better wine, and I think this year will improve with age

L’Oustal Blanc K7

Well on Wednesday I got a call from The Wine Source saying that they had received their shipment of L’Oustal Blanc this year. I was eager to pickup a few bottles after having had the K6 vintage at a wine tasting last year I knew I had to pickup a few botttles.

The K7 comes from 100 year old carignan grapes from the Minervois region of France.

It is a small production wine and worth every penny as it is a bargain at $12 a bottle. I was only going to pickup half a case, but when I found out they only received 3 cases this year as their allotment I decided to buy a full case instead.

This wine is picking up steam in the wine community and I imagine it will be even harder to find in the years to come.
